8 White: Group D

Now that you have researched Christopher Columbus, please offer your final opinion regarding the celebration of Columbus Day.  Be sure to list three reasons (based on your research) that you came to this conclusion.

  1. I believe that we should celebrate Columbus Day. A lot of the things Columbus did when he was alive, were not considered as terrible as they would have seemed if he were alive in the present day. Although slavery is awful, it brought diversity to America. Traders used the slave money to buy raw materials such as sugar, cotton, coffee, metals, and tobacco which were shipped back and sold in Europe. Cities such as Liverpool and Amsterdam grew wealthily due to trade in humans. Because of Columbus metal and money replaced just bartering goods which was much easier and convenient, and without Columbus the Pledge of Allegiance wouldn't have been written in 1892 in honor of the 400'th anniversary of Columbus' voyage. Without Columbus the world as we know it would not exist today, and we wouldn't be here.
